Teachers to be shifted after tenure completion: CEO
Kupwara, Apr 28: Scores of general line teachers and masters posted to hard zones in Kupwara last year have sought transfer back to their original postings after completing one academic session, in line with the transfer policy of the J&K Education Department.
The teachers said they were shifted in April and May 2025 to Zone V areas including Keran, Tangdar, Machil and Budnamal. They said the policy clearly states that such postings are for one academic session and most of them have now completed nearly one year in these areas.
Chief Education Officer Kupwara Manzoor Ahmad said the department is in touch with the teachers and their cases will be processed once they complete the required tenure. He said most teachers joined in May and June last year and will complete one year next month. “A link will be created by the Directorate of School Education Kashmir and once they apply, they will be transferred automatically,” he said, adding that the department will follow the policy in letter and spirit.
The teachers said they have already served in challenging conditions and now expect timely action from the department. “We followed the policy and worked in far flung areas for one full academic session. Now we expect the authorities to send us back as promised,” a group of teachers said.
They said they had approached the Commissioner Secretary Education and the Director School Education Kashmir in February, who assured them that they would be transferred back within one month. “Despite assurances, no concrete step has been taken so far,” they said.
The teachers added that working in these areas involves hardships due to distance, weather and limited facilities, and many of them have families in other parts of the district.
CEO Kupwara also said some teachers have voluntarily shown willingness to serve in hard zones for the next session. The department has assured that all eligible teachers will be transferred back to their postings once they complete their tenure.
