This is in response to the news titled “Waqf to revise rates on rented buildings” published in Rising Kashmir. Everyone in Kashmir knows how Waqf board functions. The board is among the most corrupt institutions in the state. Despite having assets and property worth thousands of crores, the board has never made any improvement in the last so many years. Till some time ago shops and buildings rented received peanuts as rent while shop keepers made lakhs of rupees. It is also no secret that shops and buildings were allotted to favorites of those running the institution. The board should be abolished and all its assets should pass on to state treasury. At least the state can use the property for development of all rather than making few rich.
