Right to Education on cards, says Peerzada
Pro-tem ZEOs, Headmasters, Principals to be confirmed soon
Srinagar, Sept 05: Minister for Education, Peerzada Muhammad Sayeed Sunday said implementation of Right to Education is under active consideration of the government. He added that orders of regularization for in-charge ZEOs, headmasters and principals will be issued shortly.
The Right to Education Act makes it obligatory on part of state governments to ensure that every child in the age group of 6-14 gets education. Its implementation is said to benefit 92 lakh out-of-school children across India.
Addressing a function organized by the Directorate of School Education, Kashmir to observe Teachers Day, Peerzada said government is committed to address the issues pertaining to teachers’ fraternity.
“Government is aware of the genuine issues and problems faced by the teachers. But we are going to take active decisions in this regard in the coming days,” he said.
To encourage result-oriented teachers, the minister said, best teacher awards are being given by the government.

He said that at National level only Rs 25,000 were given as best teacher award while the State Government has enhanced it to Rs one lakh. “Besides, two awards of Rs 75,000 each are given at State level and Rs 25,000 cash prize for each of 50 teachers at district level every year.”
Director School Education, Kashmir also spoke on the occasion, giving an overview of the promotion and pro-teacher measures taken by the government. She said that during last two years hundreds of promotions have been affected including 406 Master as headmasters, 2303 teachers as Masters, 101 Sr. lecturers as Principals, 160 headmasters as ZEOs, 13 ZEOs as Principals, 110 Masters as in-charge lecturers. Moreover, 3658 ReT’s were engaged and 7528 ReT’s were regularised.
Speaking on the occasion, Commissioner/Secretary Education, Naseema Lankar said the teachers are catalysts of social change and hoped they would continue to play their role in eradicating social evils and imparting quality education to the younger generation.
Peerzada said with good guidance of a teacher, the students can face the challenges of life, adding that teacher’s efforts can make even an average student a bright one.
Quoting verse of a renowned poet he said, “Ek pather ki taqdir bi badal sakti hai, Sharat yeh hai ki saleeke si tarasha jae (even fate of a stone can be changed provided it is chiseled well).”
