A youth hailing from the Rajouridistrict died of swine flu at a hospital here, marking thethird such death in this region in the last two months,officials said Saturday.
RayatMushtaq, 24, died at the Government Medical Collegeand Hospital on September 29 after undergoing treatment at aspecial ward meant for patients with H1N1 symptoms, officialssaid.
His 'positive' test report, however, reached the hospitalonly yesterday, they said.
The test report confirmed that the youth, who was workedat a private security agency in Mumbai, fell to swine flu, theofficials said.
Mushtaq had fallen sick in Mumbai and was brought to thehospital here by his family in the last week of September,they said.
He was the third person to die of swine flu in the Jammuregion in the past two months.
A 43-year-old woman died of the deadly disease on August25 while a 50-year-old from the Ramban district passed away onSeptember 10.
An official said that a total of 73 persons were screenedfor H1N1 since July this year and only 10 of them testedpositive. Of them, three died while two are still undergoingtreatment, he added.
About dengue, the official said a total of 1,314 patientswere screened for the disease during the past four months.
Of them, 248, including 87 children and 57 women testedpositive while the report of 310 patients is awaited.
The Jammu district reported 221 cases of dengue followedby Kathua (six), Rajouri and Doda (five each), Samba andUdhampur (four) and Poonch, Kishtwar and Kashmir (one each),they added.
