Slain PDD employee’s family aghast as department fails to complete inquiry, release ex-gratia

Committee is yet to submit a final report, department will extend every possible help to the family: CE PDD

The family members of slain Power Development Department (PDD) employee who was electrocuted at Safakadal on August 02, expressed their resentment against PDD for failing to complete inquiry and release ex gratia to the family.
As per them, Riyaz Ahmad Rather, who was working as Permanent Daily Labour (PDL) in PDD. Ahmad was repairing a faulty line and was electrocuted after he came in contact with a live wire on last Saturday, they said.
Rather, a resident of Safakadal, who was engaged in repairing work, received an electric shock and got injured. He was immediately shifted to hospital, where he succumbed after 7 hours.
Nasir Rashid, cousin of slain PDD employee, told Rising Kashmir that it has been a week now, the department has not completed inquiry nor has announced any ex gratia for the family. No one from the department has visited his home, he said.
“There is criminal negligence somewhere on PDD’s part and no action has been taken against anyone? There should be an impartial inquiry into the incident so that justice could be delivered,” he said.
As per him, although police have lodged a case in this matter, there is no progress in the whole case. Under SRO, the job should be provided to his son, so that families get a sigh of relief, Nasir said.
He said Rather was working in PDD from the past 13 years as PDL and there should be fast track inquiry into the incident.
Abdul Rehman, father of the deceased Rather stated that he was the only income source of our six-member family and now the family is in deep trauma and distress.
“There should be an impartial probe into the incident and his job should be given to his son under SRO case, so that the family will not suffer financially anymore,” he said.
Chief Engineer PDD, Aijaz Ahmad Dar told Rising Kashmir that they had already ordered an inquiry in the whole incident but the committee is yet to submit a final report.
Regarding the SRO job, Dar said the family should approach the concerned Executive Engineer and from that their case will be forwarded on priority basis.
The department will extend every possible help to the family. We have forward their case to the Secretariat and get it resolved.
“Rather’s SRO case will take some time as he has crossed the age bar but the department has written to authority to grant his case special approval,” he said.
