Srinagar, Sep 2: The Department of Gastroenterology, Sher-I-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences, Srinagar has been awarded the “J. Mitra Memorial Award” for the best original scientific contribution entitled published in the Indian Journal of Gastroenterology.
The award has been selected by Scientific Committee appointed by the Editor among the original articles published in the journal during the year 2009. In this study the authors have shown that the exercise involving bending precipitated reflux in patients with moderate to severe Gastroesophageal reflux disease. These patients of confirmed gastro-esophageal reflux disease had exercise involving toe touching from spine, sitting and standing positionand the reflux was monitored by 24 hours continuous ambulatory pH test. This finding from the Department of Gastroenterology, SKIMS, Srinagar will go in a long way in the management of patients suffering from severe Gastro-esophageal reflux disease. Director SKIMS, Dr Abdul Hamid Zargar, has complimented the department for their continuing academic excellence.
