Srinagar:

An army man was killed and four others injured during a gunfight in Awneera village of south Kashmir’s Shopian district on Saturday.
Fierce exchange of gunfire was going on between holed-up militants and government forces when the reports last came in.
“It was a big militant group. Some militants are believed to have escaped while others are still holed up,” a police official said, adding that the operation is still underway.
Meanwhile, several civilians were injured in clashes between government forces and protesters near the site of gunfight. Reports said many civilians were injured after forces resorted to pellet firing on protesters who were trying to disrupt the anti-militancy operation.
The injured were shifted to SDH hospital Yaripora and District Hospital Kulgam for treatment.
Earlier, in a joint operation, 55 Rashtriya Rifles (RR), special operations group of state police and Central Reserve Police Force laid siege in the area after receiving information about the presence of militants.
