Srinagar, Feb 4:Owing to eve teasing and harassing of females by a group of miscreants the residents of old city are aghast against the authorities for their inaction to curb the menace.
The residents said they are afraid to act against these miscreants personally and fear of consequences, but they are angry over the police action saying that the police in a year’s time managed to arrest only one miscreant and the rest are roaming free without any fear. “This has become a rampant practice in the area and we fear it can have bad impression on the other youth.”
The locals of Khanyar area alleged that some miscreants have become highly active in this unlawful practice and the menace is growing day by day. “If strict action has not been taken against the prime persons of the gang, it is certain that more and more youth will involve in this practice.”
According to the locals, few miscreants in the area for a long time are continuously harming the public life especially the female community and said no one dares to act against them. “When the girl students leave their tuition centers, these miscreants pass immoral comments towards them. Such activities have been a source of extreme trouble and mess for the populace.”
A local boy of Khanyar, who wished not be named told Rising Kashmir that the immoral practice is going on from more than a year now and police is not taking any strict action against them. “When the girl students leave the tuitions the miscreant pass immoral comments. They even threaten other students and also take money from them.”
He further alleged that few hooligan’s wait outside the tuition centers with their cars that has added more fear among the locals.
However, the police said they have arrested one of the prime accused namely Basit Ahmad who is popularly known as Basit Kala in the area.
Talking to Rising Kashmir, SP North Showkat Hussain while admitting that some hooligan’s have made the public life in the area miserable said the prime accused namely Basit has been arrested under section 109 and he has been shifted to Central Jail Srinagar.
“The search for arresting other miscreants is on and as soon we find any clue of the other accused persons, we will take action against them as well,” said Hussain.
