The violent incidents and injuries was at the lowest in south Kashmir region on Sunday as protestors avoided forces installations during their peaceful rallies and protests after local Hurriyat leaders reached out to the people.
In four districts of south Kashmir today, a number of massive peaceful rallies were taken highlighting sectarian unity and resolve of people to “fight it out till the end”.
Barring a protest in Imam Sahib, Shopian where three people including a woman where injured after policemen fired pellets and teargas shells on protestors, all other rallies remained peaceful.
In Karimabad area of Pulwama district, hundreds of people attended a rally to pay tribute to the slain militants. The rally was attended by local Hurriyat leaders, religious leaders of different sect and families of some slain militants.
Amid pro-freedom and anti-India sloganeering, people in the rally vowed to keep the agitation going.
“At least three militants, with their faces covered, attended the rally. People received the militants with hugs and slogans during their brief stay,” a source at the rally told Rising Kashmir.
The locals said a unanimous decision of “Khrew Chalo” on August 5 was also taken at the rally.
In Dupathyar area of Bijbehara in Anantnag district, hundreds of people attended a rally led by Hurriyat (G) General Secretary, Ghulam Nabi Sumji.
Leaders from Jamat-e-Islami, Jamiat-e-Ahlihadees, the Barelvi sect and other sections of the society also attended the rally.
In his address, Sumji said Chief Minister, Mehbooba Mufti, has been exposed in the recent turn of events and the “dramas” she used to enact at funerals of militants have been proved to be a farce.
He said he had been telling people all along how PDP and Muftis were more dangerous than any other mainstream politicians.
Stress was laid to follow the Hurriyat calendar and the need to keep protests peaceful.
A rally was also organized in Kanelwan area of Bijbehara and another will be organized tomorrow at Hussainpora near Arwani.
Rest of the Anantnag district also witnessed peaceful rallies and road shows organized by the youth.

“Utmost care was taken to avoid any confrontation with the forces. We chose paths where there are no military installations or police posts along the way,” a participant said.
Local Hurriyat and religious leaders in Kulgam organized a peaceful protest in Danew village, where the youth impressed upon the Hurriyat leaders to continue the strike.
