 Police on Thursday claimed to have arrested a “fraudster” and recovered fake government documents—including identity cards of security agencies and fake driving licenses—from his possession.
A police spokesperson said the accused—Ghulam Jeelani of Shaheed Gunj area of Srinagar—was involved in creating fake government documents for two to three years.
Acting on specific information, a police party of police station Nigeen laid a surprise check-point in its jurisdiction and arrested the accused, the spokesperson said in a statement.
He said few fake driving licenses were immediately recovered from his possession. “The accused was arrested and investigation was set into motion.”
On questioning, the spokesperson said, the accused revealed that he runs a shop near civil secretariat here.
“The shop was raided and various fake [driving] licenses, fake vehicle insurance, fake shop licenses, forged security forces identity-cards, mobile phones, computers and other incriminating material was recovered and seized from the spot,” the spokesperson said.
He said the accused used to create fake driving licenses and other documents at a cost of Rs 1,500.
Many fake identity cards of various security forces like Central Reserve Police Force, Jammu and Kashmir Police and Army were also recovered.
Police has registered a First Investigation Report in the case at police station Nigeen and further investigation of the case is going on.
