Omar for dialogue with separatists, says NC

National Conference Thursday said Chief Minister Omar Abdullah was keen to start dialogue process with the separatist groups in the valley.

According to a statement issued here, NC spokesman said Omar was trying his level best to engage separatist parties in dialogue. “Engagement of separatists in the dialogue process would help bring peace in the region. NC has always tried its best to persuade separatists as well as militants to join the dialogue table,” the spokesman said.
Reiterating NC’s autonomy proposal, the spokesman said the party was trying its best to build pressure on New Delhi for implementation of autonomy.
He said the Wednesday’s meeting between Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and the chief minister has generated hope within Kashmir that the Armed Forces Special Powers Act could be removed from certain districts.
“The act was imposed in 1990. We hope to see amendments in it soon or its complete removal from various districts,” he added.
The NC spokesman also blamed PDP patron Mufti Muhammad Sayeed for imposing AFSPA in Kashmir during the later’s tenure as Home Minister.
