Nothing will change on ground: Farooq

‘Normalcy will return soon’

Ruling out any change in status quo, Union Minister and President of the ruling National Conference, Farooq Abdullah Wednesday hope that Kashmir would soon return to normal.
 Addressing party workers during a commemoration function at Sheikh Abdullah’s mausoleum in Hazratbal, Farooq said, “Nothing will change in Kashmir, workers should stay cool. No storm is going to hit Kashmir.”

The function was organized by NC to remember Sheikh on his twenty-eighth death anniversary. Chief Minister Omar Abdullah along with Farooq and other party leaders paid floral tributes to Sheikh. Omar chose not to speak however  Farooq in his typical style said, “Under Sheikh Abdullah’s leadership Kashmiris freed themselves from shackles of monarchy, poverty and illiteracy.”
 “Despite tremendous hardships Sheri-Kashmir fought for the political, economic, and social rights of his people,” he said. Farooq added that the National Conference had withered storms in the past and would continue to work for the welfare and rights of the people of the state.
He appealed party workers to work for the betterment of people and expressed hope that the traditional support of peasants, workers, laborers, tillers enjoyed by the party would serve as an encouraging force to the party in future as well.
 Earlier, Dr Abdullah released a book containing historical background of National Conference and “outstanding efforts” of Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah for the welfare of the State and its people. The book has been written by a teacher.
People had to face hardships due to heavy security arrangements that were put in place a day before the anniversary function.
