Rising Kashmir NewsSrinagar, Oct 7:
The BharatiyaJanata Party (BJP) Saturday stoked a controversy after stating that none was behind the “braid chopping ‘incidents and the victims may have been suffering from disorder.
“I think there would be no one behind the braid chopping incidents,” BJP’s state general secretary (Organisation), Ashok Koul, told a local news agency. He also said that such incidents started from Bihar and took place in several other states as well.
“The braid chopping incidents are now going on in Kashmir. No braid chopper has been arrested in any state so far. I believe that this may be some disorder,” he said, adding that if “there would be any one behind it then the government should brought culprits to the book.”
While Koul said that there would be “no one behind such attacks’’, the PDP has expressed concern over such incidents. Chief Minister, Mehbooba Mufti, has directed that the culprits should be brought to book, while the police have constituted the special investigation teams (SITs) and also awarded Rs 6 lakh for those who provide the information about the braid cutters.
Koul told the local news agency that the people are indulging in beating civilians presuming them as braid choppers, which should be stopped. “The government as well as the police should make people aware about such kind of activities so that the thrashing of civilians will be stopped,” he said.
Various braid chopping incidents have been reported in Kashmir so far. The government as well as the state Police has also taken measures in this regard.
Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti had directed the Director General of Police (DGP) to investigate the matter while the Police also constituted SITS at different places. Opposition parties NC and Congress have slammed at the government for failure to achieve any breakthrough in the cases.
