Handwara, Sept 09: Demanding withdrawal of AFSPA from whole of Jammu and Kashmir, MLA Langate, S A Rasheed said that police and CRPF need to be made accountable under the purview of law.
In a press statement issue here on Thursday, Rasheed said that the present stance of central and state governments regarding AFSPA is insulting to Kashmiris, which he said is “mere eyewash to divert attention from real issues.”
“There are talks of removing this law from few districts only, but how will that make any difference,” the MLA said adding that the repealing of AFSPA from whole of the State is necessary to instil confidence amongst the battered people of the Valley. Moreover, Rasheed said, since the functioning of police and CRPF won’t be affected while AFSPA is revoked, hence government has to take other steps to control troopers and police.
“In Palhalan Pattan incident, police and CRPF fired on people killing four civilians and injuring many others. What is government doing to rein in such elements in police and CRPF?” he asked.
