Srinagar, Sept 06:
A team of officials led by Assistant Controller, Legal Metrology Srinagar on Monday inspected different markets of the city in order to prevent unfair trade practises relating to Weights and Measures laws.

During the inspection of one retail outlet of Indian Oil Corporation, an underweight LPG cylinder was seized. The weight of gas in the cylinder was found to be only 12.5 kg instead of 14.2 kg. Inspector, Legal Metrology, Circle-1 booked the salesman of the agency on spot and served a notice to the gas agency for selling underweight LPG cylinders.
The checking squad also inspected several bakers, meat sellers, poultry sellers and fruit sellers for ascertaining the correctness of their weights and measures. The traders were directed to abide by Weights and Measures laws.
The Legal Metrology department has urged the consumers to weigh LPG cylinder on the scale which remains available with salesman of the agency before taking it home from the retail outlets. The weight of the gas in the cylinder must be 14.2 kg. The cost of 14.2 kg LPG (refill) is Rs 370 when taken as home delivery and it is Rs 362 when collected from godown or showroom.
