Intense clashes rocked Sopore after the students of Government Degree College Sopore tried to take out a rally in support of an eight-year-old girl, who was raped for a week, inside a temple, by a gang of eight Hindus in Kathua in January.
Eyewitness told Rising Kashmir that student of GDC Sopore, after resuming classwork, held a massive protest demonstration inside the college premises.
Later, the protesting students tried to march towards the market but were stopped by the deployed government forces resulting in intense clashes.
Rising Kashmir has learnt that the police fired tear smoke shell inside the college premises to disperse the protesting students.
Intense clashes were going on when this report was filed.
The rape and murder of eight-year-old Bakerwal girl, who was raped inside a temple, has created a humongous controversy in the state.
So far, two of rightwing BJP ministers, who addressed the pro-rapist rally in Kathua.
One of the minister of the rightwing BJP, Minister for Forest, Choudhary Lal Singh has said that he attended the rally on party’s instructions.
“I and my colleague Chander Prakash Ganga attended Hindu Ekta Manch rally on the instructions of party president Sat Sharma,” Lal Singh told Rising Kashmir
The Jammu Bar Association also backed the pro-rapist rally and backed the rapist.
The child was kidnapped on January 10. Over the next week, she was drugged, starved, repeatedly gangraped and then murdered.
It has been alleged that the crime was committed to warn off the Muslim nomadic community away from the areas belonging to Hindus.
