‘K issue should be resolved as per UN resolutions’

Islamabad, Sept 2: Pakistan Thursday stressed that Kashmir is a disputed territory and the issue should be resolved as per UN resolutions.This was stated by Foreign Office Spokesman Abdul Basit while addressing weekly press briefing at Foreign Office, here, Pakistan Foreign Office spokesman Abdul Basit termed Farooq Abdullah’s statement that Kashmir is an integral part of India as shocking.
“Kashmir is a disputed territory and the matter should be resolved in accordance with the aspirations of the Kashmiri people and the UN resolutions,” he said.
Asked about investigation in Samjhota train incident, Basit said, “There has been no progress on this account. We hope that New Delhi will expedite the process to bring the perpetrators to book as 60 Pakistanis lost their lives in this incident.”
Replying to a question, he said that Chinese workers are engaged in Gilgit Baltistan to help the flood affected people and extending assistance in the reopening of Karakorum highway which has been damaged by recent floods and landslides. “The Chinese are also providing relief assistance to twenty five thousand people stranded at upper Attabad lake and we appreciate this humanitarian gesture on the part of Beijing,” he said and rejected reports that Chinese military was present in Gilgit-Baltistan.
He the response from the international community for the flood affected people of Pakistan was gradually gaining momentum and so far country has received pledges of one billion dollars from the world. “Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi, visited four GCC countries including Oman, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait and Qatar to apprise the leadership of those countries about relief activities and plans for reconstruction and rehabilitation in the flood affected areas,” he said adding the leadership of these fraternal countries have assured Pakistan of all possible assistance in this hour of trial.
He said a number of events have also been planned to generate further world support and apprise the international community about the damages caused by the unprecedented floods.
