Srinagar: Winter Games Association of J&K in collaboration with State Cable Car Corporation is organizing Gondola Ski Championship for the promotion of newly installed parallel chair-lifts at Affarwat.
The ski lifts which were installed to host the state, national and international ski events annually will host the Gondola championship to be conducted from March 2-4.
Around 105 skiers, from different age groups, will participate in the Championship. “There will be 15 boys and girls in each age group who will participate in the championship after qualifying the trials on March 2,” Managing Director Cable Car Corporation Talat Parvez said.
There will be also a graduation ceremony of the championship in the afternoons of March 4,” Organizing Secretary Shabir Ahmad Wani while giving details about the championship said, “The selection trails for participation in the championship would be conducted in groups of juniors(16 yr), Sub-Juniors(14 yr) and
seniors boys and girls respectively.”
First time in its history, Gulmarg will also host Snowboarding Competition. “We will also select a group of 15 skiers to participate in the snowboarding competition,” Wani added.
The registration tickets for participation in the trials are available at the offices of Cable Car Corporation office Gulmarg and Tourist Reception Center (TRC) Srinagar. “All the interested skiers can also book their tickets online from the official website of Cable Car Corporation,” informed Parvez.
The corporation will disburse a cash prize of Rs. 3 lakh in the championship among the first three position holders of the championship in each age group of skiers.
“The first three position holders of each age group will be rewarded with a cash prize of Rs. 25000, 15000 and 10000 respectively,” said Parvez.
