Rising Kashmir News
Srinagar, Sep 06: Hurriyat (G) Chairman Syed Ali Geelani, who was placed under house arrest on Monday evening, has asked Mirwiaz Umar Farooq to pass a resolution regarding his five conditions for talks with India at Eid-ul Fitr congregation at historic Jamia Masjid.
In a statement issued here, Geelani said someone from the leadership has to be attend Eid prayers at Hazratbal to make people aware about the five-conditions for talks. “The executive council of our conglomerate seriously discussed Mirwaiz’s offer for joint Eid prayers at Eidgah. However, it was maintained that someone from the pro-freedom camp has to be present at Hazratbal, which is also holds an important place. I will offer prayers in Hazratbal and seek peoples’ consent for five conditions for talks,” he said.
The Hurriyat (G) chairman appealed the religious leaders including Mirwaiz Umar Farooq to pass the same resolution at Eidgah and other places.
“Letters stapled with the five-conditions have already been sent to all concerned including Mirwaiz,” he said.
Geelani said the five conditions have been formulated in shape of a resolution at the executive council meeting and it would be passed in every nook and corner of the valley for an amicable solution of the Kashmir issue. “It was decided that if the Indian Government acts upon the conditions, then only there will be relaxation in the ongoing protest calendars. However, if India continues to maintain its rigid stand, we will be forced to intensify the protests across the Valley,” he said.
Appealing people to celebrate Eid-ul Fitr with austerity, he said, “This Eid belongs to the bereaved so I appeal people to celebrate it with complete simplicity and austerity and as per Islamic teachings. We should not forget the people who have laid their lives for the cause during the past three months”.
He also urged people to hold special repentance prayers on eve of Shab-e-Qadr for the prestige of Islam and for the freedom of Kashmiri nation.
Meanwhile, in the evening Geelani was placed under house arrest by police.
“A large posse of policemen reached Geelani’s Hyderpora residence in the evening and told him that he has been placed under house arrest and cannot move out,” Hurriyat (G) spokesman Ayaz Akbar said.
Strongly condemning the act, he said this is a clear violation of religious rights of people. “Such is the height of Indian oppression in Kashmir that troops don’t allow people to practice their religious rights on the auspicious night of Shab-e-Qadr,” he added.
