Food safety department seals unhygienic tea blending unit after viral video

Srinagar, March 30: The Food Safety Department has taken cognizance of a viral video circulating on social media, which depicted tea blending being carried out under an unhygienic manner. Acting promptly on the matter, a team of Food Safety Officers conducted a raid at the location. During the inspection, it was observed that the blending

and packing of tea were being carried out on the floor in an extremely unhygienic manner. Additionally, non-food-grade equipment was found to be in use during the blending process, posing serious risks to public health. In view of these violations, the processing area where tea blending was being conducted has been sealed until further orders.

Two samples of tea—one loose and one packed—have been collected from the premises and sent for laboratory analysis. All Food Business Operators are hereby directed to maintain high standards of hygiene at their premises. Failure to comply with the prescribed norms will invite strict action under the relevant provisions of the Food Safety and Standards.
