State High Court (HC) Tuesday directed Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) to file a status report indicting the financial and logistic support it got from the Housing and Urban Development Department with regard to implementation of action plan formulated by the SMC for controlling stray dog menace in the state.

The division bench comprising Justice Mohammad Yaqoob Mir and Justice Ali Mohammad Magrey made the orders while hearing a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) on the dog menace.
The court further noticed that the anti rabies vaccines are not available in most of the district hospitals. Previously it had asked JK MSCL to ensure requisite supply by the concerned Medical Hospitals.

To further combat dog menace, the court directed authorities to create awareness relating to dog bites and anti rabies management. The awareness was sought to be created through social media including Facebook and Whatsapp. The authorities didn’t file the status report mentioning the awareness.
The court directed the authorities to file the status report by or before 15th of May which is the next date of hearing.
Also, the court noticed that status report was not filed by authorities regarding animal birth control and setting up of anti rabies center.
