CRPF officer injured in Kulgam militant attack

Srinagar, Oct 07:

 A CRPF officer was injured in militant attack in south Kashmir’s Kulgam district while troops launched cordon and search operation (CASO) in Pulwama on Saturday.
CRPF spokesman in Srinagar said militants travelling in an alto fired on Road Opening Party (ROP) of 66 bn CRPF at Mir Bazaar in Kulgam district.
He said the in the militant firing, Sub-inspector Anwar Ali was injured.
The injured officer has been hospitalised.
After the militant attack, troops laid siege around the area to nab the attackers.
Meanwhile, a joint team of police, army and CRPF personnel laid a cordon and search operation at Bellow village in Pulwamat oday after receiving inputs about presence of some militants there.
As the troops were laying siege around the village, hundreds of people came out on roads and staged protest demonstrations. They clashed with the police and CRPF men, who fired tear smoke shells to disperse them.
During clashes, a house belonging to Ghulam Ahmad Dar caught fire.
The locals blamed forces for the incident.
They alleged that the tear gas shell fired by cops landed inside the house, causing fire.
However, police said fire was not caused by tear smoke shell.
“We are investigating the matter,” a police official said.
He said troops had launched a CASO in the area after receiving inputs about presence of some militants there.
“Some locals tried to disrupt the operation. We lifted the cordon as nothing was found in the area,” the official said.
He said the house outside the cordon area caught fire.
“We are ascertaining what caused the fire,” added the official.
