Over 500 fresh cases take infection tally to 24,897
A doctor from south Kashmir is among 13 persons who died of COVID-19 during the past 24 hours taking the death toll in J&K to 472 while over 500 fresh cases were reported on Sunday, officials said.
They said the deceased doctor, a resident of Pampore, was working as a senior medical officer in District Hospital Pulwama.
He contracted coronavirus while on duty and breathed his last at SKIMS, Srinagar late last night.
As per the government, Sunday’s casualties include three each from Srinagar and Baramulla, and one each from Pulwama, Kulgam, Kupwara, Bandipora, Kupwara, Budgam and Jammu.
With the fresh casualties, the death toll due to coronavirus has soared to 472 in J&K, which includes 437 from Kashmir and 35 from Jammu.
So far, Srinagar has reported 152 deaths, Baramulla 82, Budgam 35, Anantnag 33, Kulgam and Pulwama 30 each, Kupwara 26, Shopian 24, Bandipora 18, and Ganderbal seven.
In Jammu division, Jammu district has reported 24 deaths, Rajouri three, Doda and Udhampur two each, and Ramban, Kathua, Samba and Poonch one each.
J&K reported 507 fresh coronavirus cases on Sunday, which include 378 from Kashmir and 129 from Jammu, pushing the total infection tally to 24,897.
Today’s cases include 155 from Srinagar, Bandipora 50, Baramulla 44, Jammu 42, Anantnag and Samba 32 each, Kupwara 26, Pulwama 22, Ganderbal 18, Kulgam 15, Ramban 13, Reasi 12, Budgam and Poonch 10 each, Doda nine, Shopian six, Kathua five, Udhampur four, and Rajouri two.
The government said of the total 7,17,110 test results available, 6,92,213 returned negative and 24,897 positive which include 7422 active positive cases while 17,003 have recovered and been discharged including 336 persons discharged during the past 24 hours.
It said, so far, 3,91,304 persons had been put under observation including 41,318 in home quarantine and 7422 in isolation while 48,442 people are under home surveillance and 2,93,650 persons have completed their surveillance period.
In Kashmir, Srinagar has a total of 6155 cases, followed by Baramulla with 2137, Pulwama 1829, Kulgam 1609, Anantnag and Budgam 1533 each, Shopian 1520, Kupwara 1256, Bandipora 1022, and Ganderbal 672.
In Jammu division, Jammu district has 1555 cases, Rajouri 758, Udhampur 623, Kathua 594, Ramban 589, Samba 517, Doda 311, Poonch 275, Reasi 226, and Kishtwar 163.
