Two more COVID-19 positive patients including one from Baramulla and another from Kupwara died during the last 24 hours, taking J&K’s death toll to 33.
A 27-year-old youth from Lolab area of Kupwara was admitted at Srinagar’s SMHS Hospital on Monday with bilateral pneumonia coupled with acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS).
Nodal Officer for COVID-19 measures, GMC Srinagar, Dr M Salim Khan said the young patient died within an hour of admission and tested positive for coronavirus.
The deceased has become the first casualty in Kupwara and youngest in J&K.
Earlier, the youngest was a 29-year-old woman from Habba Kadal, Srinagar.
The frontier district has so far reported 289 positive cases and is among the four districts in J&K having the highest number of cases with 76 recoveries.
The second causality in the last 24 hours has been reported from Baramulla district.
Medical Superintendent District Hospital Baramulla, Dr Syed Masood said a woman hailing from Khanpora who died Monday has also tested positive for the virus.
He said the deceased woman had comorbidities including chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD).
“Her body was kept in a mortuary before testing positive. The patient was a contact of a 55-year-old man who died of COVID-19 last week,” Masood said.
This is the sixth death due to the novel coronavirus in Baramulla.
The district has recorded 245 coronavirus positive cases of which 103 have recovered so far.
With the two fresh deaths, the death toll due to COVID-19 has soared to 33 in J&K that include 29 from Kashmir and four from Jammu division.
Srinagar has reported seven deaths followed by Baramulla with six, Anantnag five, Kulgam four, Shopian three, two each at Budgam and Jammu, and one each at Kupwara, Bandipora and Udhampur.
