COVID-19: JK records highest single day rise as 162 test positive in 24 hrs

2 GMC interns, LD driver among fresh cases

Jammu Kashmir recorded the highest single day rise of COVID-19 cases on Wednesday as 162 patients tested positive in 24 hours including 124 from Kashmir 38 from Jammu, bringing the infection tally to 1921.
In the past 24 hours, over 2600 samples were tested in Kashmir’s three coronavirus testing labs—SKIMS Bemina, Chest Disease Hospital and SKIMS Srinagar.
The microbiology lab of CD Hospital Srinagar tested 637 samples in past 24 hours of which 89 returned positive including 19 having travel history.
Nodal Officer for COVID-19 measures GMC Srinagar Dr M Salim Khan said 89 cases include two interns of GMC Srinagar and a driver of Lal Ded Hospital.
The COVID-19 testing lab of SKIMS Medical College and Hospital (MCH) Bemina Wednesday tested 524 samples including 358 from Srinagar. All tests returned negative.
Principal SKIMS Bemina, Dr Reyaz Untoo said recovery trend at the hospital continues as 15 more patients were discharged after their recovery.
“We have 84 percent recovery rate. Of the 225 admitted, 189 have recovered and been discharged including 10 cases of pregnant women after delivery,” he said.
The Viral Diagnostic and Research Lab (VDRL) of SKIMS Srinagar tested 1440 samples in the past 24 hours of which 29 returned positive.
The positive cases include eight from Kulgam and 11 from Srinagar.
The 11 cases from Srinagar include seven having recently travelled from Delhi.
Their samples were taken from the Srinagar airport.
Earlier, the highest ever single day record was reported on May 10 when 108 cases tested positive in J&K.
The government said of the 1,45,162 test results available 1,43,241 returned negative and 1921 positive which include 1041 active positive cases while 854 have recovered and been discharged including 21 persons discharged during the past 24 hours.
It said, so far, 1,46,152 persons had been put under observation including 31,919 in home quarantine, 1041 in hospital isolation, and 57 in hospital quarantine while 35,843 people are under home surveillance and 77,266 persons have completed their surveillance period.
In Kashmir, Anantnag has 282 cases followed by Kulgam with 255, Srinagar 209, Kupwara 192, Baramulla 153, Bandipora 145, Shopian 141, Budgam 78, Ganderbal 31, and Pulwama 49.
In Jammu division, Jammu district has 113 positive cases followed by Ramban with 75, Kathua 56, Udhampur 50, Samba 32, Poonch 23, Rajouri 15, Reasi 12, Kishtwar eight and Doda two.
J&K has so far recorded 26 deaths due to coronavirus of which 23 were reported from Kashmir and three from Jammu division.
