Jammu, Apr 1 : Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Wednesday said border villages are India’s “first line of defence” and their residents must receive priority in development and welfare measures. Addressing a public event under Phase-II of the Vibrant Villages Programme at Makwal village in Jammu district, Sinha said residents of border areas serve the nation every day and their contribution must be reflected in improved living standards.  “Border villages are not the last but the first villages of India. Their residents stand guard for the nation and must be ensured better quality of life,” he said.  The Lieutenant Governor directed officials to ensure that no family is left out of government schemes and

that gaps in implementation are addressed on priority.  He said development of border villages is a key responsibility and stressed that there should be no mismatch between government promises and delivery on the ground.  Sinha said efforts are underway to provide better road connectivity, functional schools and enhanced livelihood opportunities in all border villages.  He also called for promotion of youth entrepreneurship and strengthening of women’s self-help groups to boost local economies and reduce migration to cities. Highlighting improvements in recent years, the Lieutenant Governor said connectivity and basic services have expanded significantly across border areas.  “Electricity has reached almost every household, telecom connectivity has been ensured in all 541 border villages and road access has

improved considerably,” he said.  He added that focused interventions in agriculture, dairy and allied sectors since 2020 have contributed to higher incomes and reduced migration from villages.  On demands raised by residents, Sinha said necessary action will be taken, including implementation of directions issued in 2024 regarding land ownership rights of displaced persons from Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir.  On the occasion, the Lieutenant Governor inaugurated several development projects, including a model anganwadi centre, a health sub-centre, a veterinary dispensary and community infrastructure facilities.  He also distributed appointment orders and sanction letters among beneficiaries under various government schemes, including Mission Yuva.  Senior officials from the civil administration, police and other departments were present at the event.(KNS).
