Srinagar, April 7: A black bear that had triggered panic among residents of Zandpal village in the Tangmarg area of North Kashmir’s Baramulla district has been captured alive by the Wildlife Department.
According to officials from the Wildlife Control Room Tangmarg, this black bear had been sighted in the village nearly a week ago, creating fear among locals. Residents, particularly parents expressed concern over the safety of their children as the bear roamed close to human habitation.
“After receiving information about the bear’s movement, our team installed a cage in the village. During the intervening night of Monday and Tuesday, the bear was trapped,” an official said.
The wildlife team reached the spot early Tuesday morning and safely relocated this bear to Dachigam National Park, where it will be monitored and cared for by the Wildlife department.
Officials believe the bear may have strayed into the village in search of food due to scarcity in forest areas. The animal, weighing approximately three quintals, was captured without causing any harm to residents or damage to property.
The Wildlife Department has urged people to remain vigilant and report any sightings of wild animals immediately to the authorities to ensure timely and safe intervention.
