Srinagar, Sept 02: Dukhtaran-e-Milat (DeM) chief, Asiya Andrabi along with her associate Fahmida Sofi has been booked under Public Safety Act and shifted to Kotbalwal Jail in Jammu on Thursday.
Andrabi and Fahmida were arrested on August 28 from Zakura area of suburban Srinagar by a special team of Jammu and Kashmir Police.
As soon as the District Magistrate Srinagar booked them under PSA, they were shifted to Kotbalwal Jail, Jammu.
Under PSA, a person can be booked and detained for maximum two years without any trail or bail.
Asiya and Fahmida were earlier arrested on June 10, 2009 from Srinagar and booked under PSA. They were lodged at Imphala Jail in Jammu. However, the PSA was later quashed by High Court in August 2009.
Meanwhile, Dukhtaran-e-Milat has condemned the detention of Asiya and Fahmida under PSA.
“Booking Asiya and her colleague under PSA and lodging them at Kotbalwal jail outside Kashmir speaks of Indian government’s frustration. This despite the fact that that their own Supreme Court and High Court in 2009 had advised them to lodge Asiya in Kashmir,” a statement from acting DeM chairperson, Rifat Fatima said.
Fatima added that the ongoing movement won’t die with the arrest of separatist leaders.
