Amarnath Yatra 2026: Authorities gear up as Div Com Anshul Garg reviews plans

Srinagar, April 1: In a bid to ensure a smooth and safe conduct of the annual Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra (SANJY) 2026, Divisional Commissioner Kashmir, Anshul Garg, chaired a detailed review meeting on Wednesday with senior officials to finalize arrangements for the pilgrimage to the Holy Cave. The meeting saw participation from Deputy Commissioners of Anantnag, Budgam, Ganderbal, Bandipora, and Srinagar, the Commissioner of Srinagar Municipal Corporation, and senior representatives from multiple departments including ULB, FCS&CA, RTC, RTO, Rural Sanitation, SASB, KPDCL, R&B, PHE, I&F, AYUSH, BEACON, Animal Husbandry, Labour, Health, Information, Fire & Emergency Services, IMD, Tourism, SDA, PDA, Forests, Wildlife, SDRF, district SSPs, ITBP, NHIDCL, and NHAI. Telecom providers such as G-Max, Jio, Airtel, and BSNL were also present. During the

meeting, the Divisional Commissioner reviewed proposals under Revenue and Capital Expenditure (Capex) and assessed progress on works by BEACON, including snow clearance, track widening, and repairs along the Pahalgam route. He emphasized the need for timely infrastructure readiness, directing the Roads & Buildings Department to accelerate road macadamization around Yatra base camps, develop parking areas and pony stands, and restore helipads. On tent arrangements along the Pahalgam and Baltal routes, he stressed safety, quality, and aesthetics, instructing that tents be set up only in secure and non-vulnerable locations. To bolster disaster preparedness, the Divisional Commissioner instructed Deputy Commissioner Anantnag to coordinate resource pooling and conduct detailed assessments of flood-prone areas, ensuring safe placement of camps and regulated movement of pilgrims. He also reviewed base

camp amenities and capacity, highlighting the need for fire safety measures, proper sanitation, and cleanliness along all routes. Departments were tasked with maintaining fire gaps between tents, deploying fire tenders and personnel, and ensuring hygienic conditions throughout the Yatra. On registration, he directed that all processes for pilgrims and service providers be completed well in advance. Healthcare arrangements were reviewed, with instructions to deploy additional ambulances along both routes. Directions were also given on accommodation for security personnel, provision of RTC buses, installation of public address systems and signage, timely dissemination of weather updates, and strengthening disaster management measures. Telecom companies were instructed to ensure seamless network coverage along Yatra routes and camps to support communication and enable RFID-based tracking of pilgrims.
