One youth was killed while as another sustained serious
injuries after government forces opened fire to disperse protesters who were agitated
against an alleged attempt to molest a college going girl allegedly at the
hands of an army man in Handwara.
Two youth, identified as Nayeem Qadir and Mohammad Iqbal sustained injuries after forces opened firing on the protesters. However, Iqbal succumbed to his injuries at Handwara hospital while as Qadri was shifted to Srinagar.
A health official at Handwara hospital confirmed the death of Iqbal and said “he was brought dead.” Iqbal was a resident of Bumhama, Kupwara.
Earlier, massive protests erupted in Handwara of north Kashmir against army after an unidentified trooper belonging to 21 Rashtriya Riffles allegedly attempted to molest a local college girl in a public lavatory.
