Fearing backlash, the local administration in Mendhar had to impose section 144 after it removed from over 100 temporary shops Mendhar town.
The drive was launched on the intervening night of Friday-Thursday with the help of a large contingent police force.
The temporary sheds were removed from the land allegedly encroached upon by the shopkeepers in Mendhar market.
As soon as people came to know about the drive, they tried to hold protest demonstration against the administration. However, the administration immediatelyimposed section 144 to prevent the situation from taking ugly turn.
Police used force to disperse people who assembled to hold protest against the move.
SDM Mendhar informed that they had served notices to the shopkeepers three months back but the shopkeepersignored the order.“ That is why we had to take action against them,”
