Ladakh, Apr 11: Bringing an end to years of inconsistency in official records, the administration has introduced a mechanism to revise Aadhaar details of residents, allowing “Ladakh” to be correctly reflected as their place of residence. The update aligns identity data with the Union Territory’s separate status established after the 2019 reorganisation.

Earlier, the continued mention of “Jammu & Kashmir” in Aadhaar records had emerged as a major concern for locals, often leading to verification issues and procedural delays across various services. The matter had been repeatedly raised, following which authorities initiated steps to rectify the anomaly and ensure accurate representation in national databases.

Officials said the Union Territory administration worked closely with the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) to implement a centralized correction mechanism.

The initiative ensures that the update is carried out efficiently without requiring residents to undergo cumbersome procedures.

In a citizen-centric move, the correction process has been enabled through Ladakh-specific PIN codes, eliminating the need for individuals to visit Aadhaar enrolment centres. Residents can now conveniently download their updated e-Aadhaar online or apply for PVC Aadhaar cards digitally.

The move is expected to streamline documentation processes, reduce service-related hurdles, and reinforce Ladakh’s distinct identity in official records. Authorities view this as a step towards more responsive governance and improved public service delivery in the Union Territory.
