Srinagar, Sept 6: Three militants were killed in a fierce gun battle with army men in border district of Kupwara on Monday, official sources said.
They said four different battalions of army including 1 Naga, 6 para, 6 and 21 Rashtriya Rifles launched a joint cordon-and-search operation at Hafrada forest area near Line of Control (LoC) in Kupwara district. “During the combing operation, the militants hiding in the area fired from automatic weapons towards the troopers. The fire was returned by the troopers and in the ensuing gunfight, which lasted for three hours, three militants were killed,” they said.
Without identifying the slain militants, they said the search operation in the area was going on.
