Pakistani troops Wednesday resorted to heavy firing and shelling on forward posts and civilian areas along the Line of Control (LoC) in Poonch district resulting in injuries to five persons including 2 BSF jawans. The firing was effectively retaliated by Indian Army, which claimed to have given Pakistani Army a “befitting response.”
"Pakistan Army initiated unprovoked and indiscriminate firing of small arms, automatics and mortars in Shahpur sector in Poonch along the Line of Control (LoC)," a defence spokesman said. "Indian Army retaliating strongly and effectively", he added.
The Defence Spokesman said that the exchange of firing continued for long hours and was continuing between the two sides when the last reports were received.
A security official said that two Bsf jawans injured in Sawjian sector of Poonch due to Pakistani shelling were identified as head constable Sandeep Jageer and constable Ravinder Sing of 137 BSF. The paramilitary personnel were deployed at Indian post Thanedhar Tekri.
According to officials after the firing the injured personnel were shifted to Army hospital at Poonch for advanced treatment.
As per reports 3 civilian were also injured in shelling in Dagwar and Gupur sector. They were identified as Mohammadd Khurshid s/o Mohd Hussain r/o Dagwar, Mohd Kabir s/o Mohd sharief r/o Dagwar and Sadam Hussain S/O Sulam Din.
They were shifted to the district hospital Poonch and are undergoing treatment.
