At least 10 people were injured in a grenade blast at Bijbehara town in south Kashmir’s Anantnag district on Wednesday.
“Militants lobbed a grenade towards a passing CRPF vehicle near Goriwan area in Bijbehara town in the afternoon. The grenade, however, missed its target and exploded on the road, injuring ten pedestrians,” a police official said.
He said the injured were taken to Sub District Hospital (SDH) Bijbehara.
A medico at Sub District Hospital Bijbehara told Rising Kashmir that the hospital received 10 injured out of which four including 12 year old boy, Fazal Ahmed of Shopian were referred to Srinagar hospitals for further treatment.
Other injured were identified as Mohammad Abdullah, 65, of Bijbehara town; Ishtiyaq Ahmed Dar of BadigamShopian; Daizy Jan, Tariq Ahmed Shah, 40 of Tral; Asif Ahmed, 38, of Tral; RozyAkhter, 35, of Hassanpora; MuneeraAkhter, 20, of Sangam, Tawseef Ahmed of ZainaporaShopian.
After the grenade attacks, force personnel rushed to the area and launched searches in the area to nab the attackers. However, no arrests were reported.
No militant outfit claimed responsibility for today’s attack.
This is the second attack in Bijbehara town in less than ten days.
Earlier, a policeman was killed and another injured after militants fired upon their vehicle near PadshahiBagh area of the Bijbehara town on May 15.
