J&K targets 1.37 lakh enterprises, 4.25 lakh jobs over 5 years
Srinagar, Apr 25: Mission YUVA (Yuva Udyami Vikas Abhiyan), a flagship entrepreneurship initiative, is gaining momentum in Srinagar, with details revealing that 6,391 applications have been approved in the district so far. The initiative was launched by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on June 28, 2025.
According to details available on the official website of District Srinagar, 6,744 youth beneficiaries have been associated with the entrepreneurship scheme in the district. The government has set a target of creating 1.37 lakh enterprises and 4.25 lakh jobs across Jammu and Kashmir over five years.
Under this scheme, the eligibility criteria generally target youth aged between 18-35 years, and up to 40 years for some special categories.
The Chief Minister projected Mission YUVA as a potential national model for self-employment, asserting that the Union Territory is working to set a benchmark in entrepreneurship-led development across the country.
On March 30, 2026, the Chief Minister addressed the Yuva Mahotsav–Mission YUVA programme at the Convention Centre in Srinagar and stated that the initiative has been designed in "mission mode" to address unemployment, which he described as the most serious socio-economic challenge in Jammu and Kashmir.
The Chief Minister also launched a Credit Guarantee Fund for agri-allied activities along with the digital inauguration of 20 Small Business Development Units (SBDUs). He said the scheme will be continuously reviewed and improved based on feedback, including from entrepreneurs facing implementation challenges. He also called for linking Mission YUVA with other livelihood initiatives to expand grassroots entrepreneurship.
