Self-rule is a stolen idea: NC

Mirwaiz: No self-rule, we’re for plebiscite
It’s a confusing document: Cong

Abid Bashir
Srinagar, Nov 1:
Rejecting PDP’s self rule document, the ruling National Conference Sunday said the proposal was a stolen ideal while Congress termed it a confusing document. Hurriyat (M) chairman Mirwaiz Umar Faooq said people of Jammu and Kashmir want self-determination and not self rule.
Talking to Rising Kashmir, senior NC leader and MLA Hazratbal Sheikh Mustafa Kamal said there was nothing new in self-rule. “Self-rule is a stolen idea.
Autonomy is the best solution. PDP talks about opening of routes and joint council. Why do they forget that 25 seats are already reserved for Pakistan administered Kashmir. They talk of opening of routes but forget that LoC was not a border. It has no legal sanctity,” he said.
Taking a dig at PDP patron Mufti Muhammad Sayeed, the NC leader said if he thinks people of State have forgotten him for bringing Jagmohan and black laws like AFSPA to Jammu and Kashmir, he is badly mistaken.  “The same person talking about self-rule is an enigma,” added Kamal.
Hurriyat (M) chairman, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, said he had no idea about whether he was invited or not.  “Not self rule, people of Jammu and Kashmir want right to self determination to determine their fate.  They (PDP) are talking about a solution within the constitution of India while we are for a solution outside Indian constitution,” Mirwaiz told Rising Kashmir.
“There is a need for consensus among the separatist leadership and not in the mainstream camp. The pro-India camp should strengthen our agenda,” he said.
Senior Hurriyat (M) leader and National Front chairman Nayeem Khan said he was not invited to the self-rule seminar. “My message to NC and PDP is that they should not create confusion by talking about autonomy and self-rule. Through these slogans, they want to hoodwink the people. Mainstream parties are always being backed by India,” he said.
Khan said Hurriyat represents the people of Jammu and Kashmir in true sense. “We are fighting for a cause, which is to heal the wounds of people. Holding seminars on self-rule at a time when international community has accepted Kashmir as a dispute and is building pressure on India to resolve the issue will delay Kashmir resolution. It will create a big confusion,” he added.
Senior Congress leader and MLC Abdul Gani Vakil termed the self-rule document as a confused one. “I have not understood what self-rule means. The PDP leaders are tying to remain in limelight by explaining it to their workers,” he said.
Congress General Secretary Ghulam Nabi Mir (Lasjan) said PDP should first explain self-rule to the Congress leadership. “We want to know what it means,” he said.
CPI (M) State secretary Muhammad Yousuf Tarigami said he was invited but could not attend the seminar as he had to chair an important meeting in his constituency.

Kashmiris have no friends
We are to be destroyed physically, economically and culturally

Abdul Majid Zargar

It is said and widely believed that Kurds have no friends. If permitted, I will add word “Kashmiris” to it. And to demonstrate the ground realities correctly, I will arrange the phrase to read as “Kashmiris and Kurds have no friends”
