Roadside bombs still a challenge: Police
Srinagar, April 23:Hours after two Improvised Explosive Devices (IED) were diffused in south Kashmir, the security officials on Friday said the roadside bombs are still a challenge for them in Kashmir.
A top security official told Rising Kashmir that planting IEDs along roadsides, buildings and other locations has become a new challenge and somehow they have succeeded in diffusing them.
“We are working on a strategy to avert these incidents in future and our bomb squads are well trained to diffuse them within a short period of time,” the official said.
The official said foreign militants are mostly trained for making IEDs and OWGs are being used to assemble explosives.
“From the past three years, the trends of planting IEDs have been decreased. In 2020, only one blast took place while nine were recovered. In 2019, 10 blasts took place and 12 were recovered,” the officer said.
“We have defused 4-5 IEDs this year and have been successful in averting tragedies due to these roadside bombs,” he said.
In 2019, Kashmir witnessed the deadliest IED attack in which at least 40 Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel were killed after a suicide bomber rammed an IED-laden vehicle into a security convoy in Pulwama.
