The orphanages in Kashmir receive nearly half of the donations in the holy month of Ramadan alone

Feeding and helping the orphans and needy is an act that draws us close to almighty Allah and Kashmir is known for its rich culture of organizing Iftar and donating charity among the orphans.

Usually, in the holy month of Ramadan, the people of Kashmir generously fund or offer various goods and meals to local civil humanitarian charities for the poor and orphans.

In this month, people feel privileged to share the meals and other goods and meals with the orphans who are deprived of the love and care of their parents.

In Sunan al-Tirmidhi—one of the six canonical books of Hadith, it is written that, “Whoever gives food to a fasting person with which to break his fast, will have a reward equal to his, without it detracting in the slightest from the reward of the fasting person.”

The orphanages in Kashmir receive nearly half of the donations in the holy month of Ramadan alone.

Chairman of Jammu and Kashmir Yateem Khana Rahat Manzil, Moin-Ul-Islam said that the orphanage is receiving more than 60 per cent of the donations during Ramadan only.

He said that in the orphanage, they provide all the facilities to the orphans so that they won’t feel that they are derived from the love of their parents and family.

“In our orphanage, more than 300 children are getting free meals and education,” he said.

“All the children in the orphanage are being given more than what a normal person enjoys at home in the month of Ramadan. Every day they are being offered meat during the Iftar and Sehri. They are being offered Sharbat and fruits as well,” Moin said.

He said that the donation and the charity only come through the public.

Moin however, also said that the donation was badly affected in the last two years due to the COVID-19.

“Our donation was affected by 40 per cent in the past two years, but we have not curtailed anything that was being offered to the orphans,” he said.
