Not just structure but tribute to his bravery, sacrifice: Maharashtra Dy CM
Hapatnar (Pahalgam), Apr 21: The family of Syed Adil Hussain Shah, martyred in last year's Pahalgam terror attack, was handed over a newly constructed house on Tuesday, with Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde addressing the programme through video conference.
Recalling the incident, Shinde said, "Today, I am witnessing a programme filled with deep emotions and humanity. This is about Shaheed Adil Shah, who, in Pahalgam, showed extraordinary courage to save tourists and uphold humanity. At a time when terrorists were asking people about their religion and shooting them, targeting Hindus, several tourists from Maharashtra were also among those affected. It was a deeply painful and tragic incident."
"It has been one year since humanity was attacked in Pahalgam, and today we have gathered to remember a brave son who chose humanity over everything else. Adil sacrificed his today for our tomorrow," he added.
The Maharashtra Deputy CM said when a person is martyred, it is not just one life that is lost. "A mother loses her son, a father loses his support, and a family loses its happiness," he said. "On that day, in Baisaran, 20-year-old Adil put his life at risk to save others. He could have saved himself, but his conscience did not allow him to do so. He even tried to snatch the weapon from the terrorists and stood in front to protect the tourists. He laid down his life for humanity."
Shinde said that after witnessing Adil's bravery, Shiv Sena had promised to stand by his family. We had assured immediate financial support of Rs 5 lakh and also promised to rebuild their house, he said. "Today, we are fulfilling that promise. This house we are dedicating to Adil's family is not just a structure; it is a tribute to his bravery and sacrifice. Adil rose above religion, caste, and language and chose humanity above all," he added.
A family member expressed gratitude for the fulfilment of the promise: "After the incident on April 22, 2025, you announced financial assistance of Rs 5 lakh and promised to build a house for us. Many people had doubts, but today that house has been completed. I wholeheartedly thank you for keeping your promise. Our Adil gave his life in Baisaran while saving tourists and upheld humanity. In the same way, you have upheld humanity by supporting our family and building this house. For that, we are deeply grateful."
The house was formally handed over to Adil's family after its inauguration by ministers Sanjay Shirsat and Yogesh Kadam. Among those present were Shiv Sena secretary Captain Abhijit Adsul, Sarhad organisation director Sanjay Nahar, Yuva Sena representatives Bajirao Chavan, Vikas Gogawale and Abhimanyu Khotkar, senior police officials from Anantnag, including Rameez Raja and Farooq Ahmad, Jammu and Kashmir Shiv Sena chief Ashwini Kumar Gupta, state secretary Mohammad Shakeel Mogre, and a large number of local residents.
