KVK Sgr conducts awareness drive on balanced nutrient management in Khonmoh

Srinagar, Apr 30: To promote scientific agriculture, Krishi Vigyan Kendra Srinagar under the aegis of Directorate of Extension SKUAST-Kashmir conducted an extensive awareness campaign on the adoption of balanced and judicious nutrient management among the farming community of block Khonmoh on Wednesday.

 

The campaign forms part of an ongoing initiative aimed at popularizing soil- and leaf-test-based nutrient management practices in both horticultural and cereal crops.

 

During the day-long awareness, KVK scientists led by Prof. S. A. Simnani Prof & Head KVK Srinagar, emphasized the importance of site-specific nutrient management and highlighted the adverse impacts of indiscriminate and imbalanced fertilizer use on soil health, crop productivity, and environmental sustainability.

 

Farmers were sensitized about the critical role of macro- and micro-nutrients in crop growth and the need for their precise application based on scientific soil and leaf analysis.

 

The experts also elaborated on integrated nutrient management approaches, combining organic manures, biofertilizers, and chemical fertilizers to maintain soil fertility and enhance nutrient use efficiency.

 

Special emphasis was laid on adoption Natural and Organic Farming practices by Dr Ishtiyak A Mir, Nodal Officer Natural Farming project, to reduce the dependence on use of chemical inputs to ameliorate the soil health and fertility to enhance the quality production.

 

Participating farmers expressed keen interest in adopting the recommended practices and appreciated the efforts of the KVK Srinagar in disseminating practical and location-specific knowledge. The campaign witnessed active participation from progressive farmers, orchardists, Students and rural youth from various parts of the district.

 

They emphasized that such awareness programmes are vital for achieving sustainable agricultural development, improving input-use efficiency, and enhancing farmers’ income in the region.

 

The campaign concluded with an interactive session, where farmers’ queries were addressed, and advisory support was extended for implementing nutrient management plans in their respective fields.
