DM B’pora reviews anti-drug measures at NCORD meet

Bandipora, Apr 27: District Magistrate (DM) Bandipora, Indu Kanwal Chib along with the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Bandipora, Ajaz Ahmad Zargar on Monday chaired a meeting of the District-Level NCORD Committee to review ongoing efforts to curb drug abuse and illicit trafficking in the district.

 

During the meeting, the DM directed all departments to maintain updated and comprehensive data on enforcement measures.

 

On the occasion, the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Bandipora, Ajaz Ahmad Zargar apprised that recent actions have had a positive impact, particularly in identified hotspots based on FIR analysis. He also briefed about enhanced CCTV surveillance, including installation in schools.

 

The DM directed the Chief Education Officer to ensure installation of CCTV cameras in all Government and private schools, as well as coaching centres, within one week.

 

The SSP further apprised the meeting about action taken in freezing and attachment of properties linked to drug trafficking, and shared details regarding acquittals and bails.

 

The DM reiterated strict action against offenders, including suspension of driving licences, passports and other essential documents. 

 

The Deputy Director Prosecution presented details of NDPS cases pending trial, acquittals, bails granted and cancelled, including those involving commercial quantity. The DM stressed the need for regular training of prosecutors to strengthen prosecution.

 

Reviewing IEC activities, the DM assessed the initiative scorecard and directed departments, particularly Labour Department to ensure active participation and reporting. Key initiatives such as “Dosti Discussions” and “Maa se Guftagu” were reviewed, with emphasis on meaningful events and signature campaigns.

 

The ARTO presented an Action Taken Report on UDS tests, NDPS cases and suspension of driving licences and registrations, while the Excise Department reported on poppy destruction. Directions were also issued for strengthening UDS Committee meetings and monitoring of courier service operators. 

 

The Assistant Drug Controller informed the meeting about inspections, notices served, licence suspensions and late-night inspections. The Health Department shared details of UDS testing and registrations at the Addiction Treatment Facility Bandipora.

 

The District Epidemiologist Officer briefed on activities under the National Tobacco Control Programme, highlighting preventive and cessation measures, while strict enforcement of COTPA in schools, including imposition of fines, was emphasized. The Designated Officer, Food Safety, also presented enforcement updates.

 

The DM stressed coordinated efforts, continuous monitoring and a clear way forward to effectively tackle drug abuse and illicit trafficking in the district.
