Kulgam, Apr 29: Taking governance at the doorsteps of the people, the District Administration Kulgam on Wednesday conducted a Mega Block Diwas at Behibagh, witnessing active public participation where grievances and developmental demands were raised by the people.

The public outreach programme was presided over by Additional District Development Commissioner (ADDC) Altaf Ahmad Khan, who listened patiently to the issues highlighted by the residents.

During the programme, people from various areas including Cheki Hanjin, Behibagh, Semipora, Daderkoot, Numai, Kadder and adjoining villages projected several developmental demands.

Key demands included upgradation of link roads, macadamization of Sheganpora–Daderkoot and Daderkoot–Khijogipora roads, and desilting of water canals to ensure proper irrigation.

Given the horticulture significance of the area, the residents also emphasized the need for ensuring the availability of standard quality pesticides.

Other issues highlighted included augmentation and realignment of the High Tension (HT) power line for reliable electricity supply, and construction of a protection bund at a public park.

The ADDC, along with other officers, gave a patient hearing to all the grievances and assured that all genuine issues would be examined thoroughly and addressed in a phased and time-bound manner in coordination with the concerned departments.

He also directed the officers to take immediate necessary action on priority matters.

Officers from various departments responded to the grievances and provided on-the-spot clarifications to the public.

On the occasion, several government departments had set up stalls and counters for on-the-spot registration of beneficiaries under various welfare schemes.

Public awareness was also raised about various schemes, including their benefits, eligibility criteria, and application procedures.

The programme was attended by officers including JDP, Malik Suhail; ACR, Riyaz Ahmad Shah; ACD, Bilal Ahmad Kamgar; CEO, Tehsildar, BDO, and other district and sectoral officers.
