Rs 34 lakh realised as fine from traffic violators: IG
Rising Kashmir News Srinagar Jan 29: Although Jammu has been witnessing more traffic violations and challans, but it is the Kashmiris who are paying more revenue to the Traffic department. Giving details of the activities against the violations of the traffic rules, the Inspector General of Police Traffic JK, S P Vaid Thursday said that in December 2008, 21206 violators were challaned across the State that included 13539 in Jammu Province, 4620 in Kashmir and 3047 against the offenders on Jammu-Srinagar highway. The IG said that Rs 34 lakh were released from the violators. In Jammu revenue of Rs. 6.36 lakh was realised, while 4620 challans in Kashmir province realizing revenue of Rs. 11.95 lakh. About 3047 challans were done against offenders on Jammu-Srinagar highway realizing revenue of Rs. 5.57 lakh. Vaid said during the crack down on offenders, 3089 challans were made against non-use of crash helmet, 1057 against non-use of seat belts, 2023 for over-speeding/overloading of passenger vehicles, 2254 for wrong parking, 1233 for driving without license or having invalid driving licenses. IG said that 175 challans were made for driving without RC, 87 for driving without route permit, 58 for driving without fitness certificate, 309 for driving without insurance, 889 for driving without Pollution Under Control Certificate (PUCC), 101 against offenders using tinted glasses, 96 against offenders using pressure horns where as 2574 challans were made against offenders driving without uniform. He also said that against use of unauthorized red flasher lights 14 challans were made upto January 19, where as 1209 challans against use of unspecified number plates/wrong parking, 64 challans against minors indulging in driving whereas 1074 were made against the offenders using black films during the same period. The IG Traffic said that a special drive against offenders driving without using seat belts, use of mobile phone while driving/wrong parking, use of shrill horns and triple ridding have been launched. “These drives will continue all over the State and vehicle owners are advised to desist from indulging in traffic offences,” said Vaid.
